Family Portraits

Do you take family portraits and display them in your home? I do!

We've been noticing...for a while...that our family pictures were outdated. Like almost four years! The last time we took them, Buddy Roller wasn't even walking yet, and he looks nothing like he did back then!

There's this running joke at my school, that if you've taught for one year, you're a veteran teacher! Can you believe that? LOL

Even though I've been teaching for seven years now...a veteran teacher I am not. Maybe it's because I'm humble.  But mostly it's because I feel as though I learn something new...every year.

Throwback Tuesday

So. I was on a mad hunt this morning for my college diplomas to display in my classroom.  I'm in the midst of getting my room ready for a brand new year and a whole new batch of eager 6th graders.  It's great to display accomplishments for students, so that they can have their own aspirations and make their dreams come true.

But where had I stored my diplomas? I had to go through a couple of old boxes of some very old photos to find them, but what a discovery...

Florida Vacay



We spent ten glorious days in Florida this summer visiting family and soaking up the sun's rays. It was a lovely time. We got to sleep in when we wanted, we played when we wanted, and as always, we made our mouths happy sampling some of South Florida's tastiest fares.

One of the things I'm truly grateful for, and appreciated the most, was the time we spent with my mother-in-law, Twinks. Because of her, we truly got to experience a true vacation with her being so attentive to all of us.  Whether it was making us delicious home-cooked meals, spending quality time with Buddy Roller while The Hubs and I stole away for a date, or just playing board games as a family most nights...it was truly a treasured time.

Novels Turned Movies

There have been tons of books that have been turned into movies. Harry Potter, Gone Girl, The Hunger Games, The Notebook...just to name a few.  Some have been great...some not so great, right? You be the judge. When comparing a book to its movie, one might talk about the similarities and differences between the two, and whether casting directors chose the right actor or actress for the leading roles.  And then there's always the debate over which was better. The book. Or the movie...

Re-adjusting from Vacay

Back from vacation...that is. Just wanted to pop in and say a quick hello and let you know I'll try to get back to regular blogging soon.

We returned home a few days ago, and I've been trying to adjust to reality after living the "vacay life" for almost two weeks. It's hard! So I've been in a little funk, and this is the other reason why I haven't been writing...

Think back to when you were in school, can you recall a teacher who always seemed grumpy and didn't smile nearly enough?

I can, and some of my students have also complained to me about other teachers who "don't smile at all!"

Running Among Thousands...in the Rain

Writing this blog truly has its benefits.

Writing this blog is the reason I had to run The Peachtree Road Race.  You see, I wrote about how my story began here, my dilemma, and my ultimate decision. And that's why I love writing this blog so much. It allows me to tackle my fears, and face them head on. Because writing about something, means I have to do IT. Words do have power.

So. Yes. As you may have guessed, earlier today, I put on my running shoes and run like a girl I did...

Why I'll Never Forget How She Made Me Feel

There's this famous quote from Maya Angelou that reads, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

I certainly don't remember everything about her, what she said or did, but I will never forget how Ms. Costa made me feel...
