Book Review for Then She Was Gone

I finished this book earlier today.  It gave me sleepless nights, and it had me asking this question...

Are writers of psychological thrillers really bizarre people to think of unsettling and sinister events they write about, OR are they just really creative people who think of creepy and unpleasant things?

Either way you slice it, Lisa Jewell's dark novel, Then She Was Gone, is a page turner that left me haunted and kept me intrigued from the first to the last page!

Though this book was really disturbing (seriously), I appreciated the short chapters that drew me in, and the way Jewell created complex and complicated characters.  Even to the very end, this book had its fair share of twists and turns.

The book goes like this. Young, beautiful and 15,  Ellie Mack suddenly disappears from her perfect life leaving her family irreparably broken. Now 10 years later, her parents are divorced, her siblings are forever changed and now her mom, Laurel, is finally trying to move on with her life. Laurel meets a charming gentleman, Floyd, and is surprised to find how much she is drawn to him because there is something about him that seems all too familiar. Later, she meets his nine year old daughter, Poppy, who is, not only, the splitting image of her daughter Ellie, but she also acts like her too. Old memories are dug up, and Laurel is determined, more than ever, to find answers to this decade old mystery...what happened to Ellie?

This is the best book I've read so far this summer. If you're looking for a page-turner, and you want to get lost in the pages of a good book, then this is one to add to your list.
