Who Runs the World?

The power's in the socks! Just kidding.

Who runs the world? Girls! At least that's what we say when we recite our Girls on the Run chant at the end of each of our practices.

This morning our season of Heart and Sole culminated with a 5k around Turner Field in Atlanta. It was cold. It was early. But we're girls...we can handle anything especially while wearing our crazy and colorful socks!

Coaches and running buddies
Each season of Girls on the Run is different because each girl is unique.  The girls are all special, but one young lady comes to mind when I think of how much she has grown in just one season. Her smile is brighter, and she holds her head a little higher.  She has more confidence. That's what this running program has done for her...and countless other girls. You see, some of these girls had never ran a 5K before. This program gives them a goal to work towards while building their confidence and self-esteem.  And while many girls do a combination of running and walking (some may even walk the whole way), the point is that they are all finishers. It's not about how fast they ran, but it's more about crossing the finish line...no matter how you get there.

Coaches
It has been both an honor and a pleasure working alongside these two coaches this season. I see their dedication and their love for this program and the girls. They have shown me what patience really looks like, and what it truly means to have a big heart.  I can't wait for next season.
