Several years ago, I learned about six word memoirs, and I love doing them with my kids. It's a great little activity that doesn't require much planning and supplies. It gets the kids thinking, it can be used in just about any subject, and it involves just six words...
The idea is that students get to tell about themselves, just like you would with a memoir. But unlike memoirs that can be hundreds of pages long, a six word memoir is only, you guessed it...six words.
This is a great activity for the beginning of the year...as an ice-breaker...middle, or even end of the year. In language arts, it can be used as a ticket out the door, as a way to analyze characters, sum up a text, just about any way really. One of the teachers on my team loved the activity so much that she incorporated it into her social studies class.
Last year, I even devoted the whole month of January to writing six word memoirs. Check out this one, this one, and this one.
