View From the Top

This Mother's Day weekend we decided to hit the road!

We traveled just three hours to Asheville, NC with our friends the Smiths to take in the sights, tastes and adventures of this breathtaking mountainous getaway.

First stop, the Biltmore Estate. Truth be told, I was not all that impressed. It is a beautiful home. Okay home is an understatement considering it is the largest abode in America with 250 rooms, including 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces, an indoor pool, winery, blah blah blah. You get the picture.

I was impressed by the views though. Wow! The grounds were immaculate, but by the time we saw the 10th room, I was ready for the next adventure.

And the next excursion....Chimney Rock at the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains....did not disappoint.

Boy were we in for a treat and lots of walking.....as we took several hundred steps....all the way to the top of...well, I'll let the pictures do most of the talking.

Yup, that's where we're heading. Right up there, where the flag is. Can you see it? Only 491 steps to get there.

Not bad, this is easy. We got this! Only 470 more steps to go...

The little guys were great, so much energy! They were running up those steps.

Perfect time for a photo break!

And he's off again!

Okay we are just too cute not to take another photo break!

There were running up there. Me? Did I tell you I'm a marathon runner!? No panting and breathing heavy for me!!! I was not out of breath at all. I could do this two times over. Not!!!! LOL!!!

Almost there!

Say...word!

That work....was so worth it!!! Awwww.....what a view.

Okay that was a nice break. But we are not done yet. Another 330 more steps to go.

Another view from the side of the mountain.

Getting farther away.

Taking in more spectacular views.

And...what goes up must come down. Back down more than 800 steps to the bottom. It was way easier on the way down. The clouds were good to us as they covered the sun and delighted us with a cool breeze on our descent.

That was a really cool experience. Looking forward to more adventures!
